Years ago an art teacher told his drawing class that shadows do not have to be black or gray. Why not apply yellow? One would still know they are shadows. Bring in color.
A fellow student shared his knowledge of working with watercolors. Use the white of the paper and mix your own black with a combination of red, green, blue and purple paint. To this day, I follow their advice.  ~ Gail Thomas, Artist
